The inverter is an integral part of the solar energy system, which undertakes the task of converting between direct current and alternating current.
But there are also different types of inverters: on grid inverters, off grid inverters and hybrid inverter.
1.on grid vs off grid solar inverter
On grid solar inverter:
The inverter that converts solar energy into AC power and uploads it to the national grid is called an on grid solar inverter. This inverter does not have the function of storing solar energy or electric energy, but simply adds power to the national grid. The infrastructure is relatively complete. However, it is widely used in countries or regions with insufficient power generation capacity, such as Malaysia and Vietnam. The power infrastructure in these countries is relatively complete, but the power supply capacity is lacking. Therefore, the local government advocates that the citizens install on grid solar systems and use solar energy to supplement the national grid, so as to make up for the lack of power supply;
Off grid solar inverter:
However, in countries with imperfect power facilities, it is obvious that the on grid solar system cannot solve the problem. The places where people live often do not have electricity provided by the national grid, or the national grid only provides electricity for a short period of time. At this time, people need to store solar energy for future use. The off grid solar system is designed for this demand. It is equipped with batteries, solar panels and corresponding equipment for storage needs. In the case of sufficient sunlight during the day, the off grid solar system will automatically charge the battery. When the national power supply is available, the system will use the electricity stored in the battery to supply power to the load of the household, while also leaving the cost of the mains electricity.
2.on grid vs off grid vs hybrid solar inverter
In addition to on grid solar system and off grid solar system, there is also a solar system called hybrid solar system, which combines the characteristics of on grid solar system and off grid solar system. It can be connected to the grid and installed with energy storage equipment. The differences between them are as follows:
-Power source: on grid solar systems can obtain power from the grid when solar power is insufficient, while off grid solar systems rely entirely on solar energy and energy storage devices (such as batteries) for power supply. Hybrid solar systems can obtain power from energy storage devices when the grid is powered off.
-Power storage: on grid solar systems can transmit excess power to the grid, thereby obtaining net metering or other forms of subsidies. Off grid solar systems require the installation of batteries to store excess power. Hybrid solar systems can choose whether to install energy storage devices based on needs.
-Power supply: on grid solar systems cannot operate during grid outages, while off grid solar systems can continue to supply power under any circumstances. Hybrid solar systems can obtain power from energy storage devices during grid outages.
-Power cost: The installation cost of on grid solar systems is relatively low, while off grid solar systems require more equipment and maintenance costs, while hybrid solar systems are in between.
-Taxes and subsidies: on grid solar systems can enjoy tax benefits or subsidies provided by some governments or utility companies, while off grid solar systems do not have these benefits. Hybrid solar systems vary according to regulations in different regions.
Xindun Power mainly produces off grid solar systems and hybrid solar systems. Our projects have been put into use in more than 80 countries around the world, helping customers solve electricity problems, improve local solar energy utilization, and reduce dependence on oil and natural gas resources.
